Chicago Bistro French Onion Soup
Ingredients:
- 1 package Chicago Bistro French Onion Soup Mix
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 large sweet onion
- 6 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup apple cider or apple juice
- 8 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded, optional
- 4-6 slices toasted French bread, optional
Directions:
- Peel onion and cut into quarters, then cross cut quarters to form narrow semi-circle slices.
- In a 4-quart pot melt butter and saute onion 10 minutes. If you prefer to caramelize the onion, add 1 tsp. sugar and continue to cook to a golden brown an extra 10 minutes.
- Add contents of soup mix and stir 30 seconds.
- Add broth, apple cider and Worcestershire. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low heat for 45 minutes and serve!
